Pearl is the Birthstone for June
Pearls are cultivated in both fresh and salt water, cultured pearls come in many different shapes and colors. The most popular shapes have traditionally been round, but more unusual shapes, like baroque and button are also available, colors range from white, and cream to gray and black, as well as rich purples, golds and yellows.
Pearls are very soft and easily scratched or abraded if stored next to other jewelry. But with reasonable care your pearl jewelry can be a lasting treasure.
Pearl’s toughness is usually good, but aging, dehydration, and sometimes excessive bleaching during initial processing might make some pearls more fragile.
High heat can burn cultured pearls or cause discoloration, splitting, or cracking.
Pearl is generally stable to light, but heat from intense light can cause dehydration and cracked nacre.
Pearl can be damaged by many chemicals and all acids. The list includes hair spray, perfume, cosmetics, and even perspiration.
Pearls might be dyed, impregnated, or coated. These treatments might alter over time. Bleaching and irradiation can be stable during normal wear.
Just remember the following:
1. Last on, first off. Pearls should be the final touch prior to leaving. Avoid applying makeup, hairspray, lotion or perfume once your pearls are on.
2. Always store them flat. While it's perfectly acceptable for most necklaces to be hung on a cute jewelry rack, your pearl strands should not be. Store pearl necklaces flat to prevent them from stretching.
3. Find a dedicated space just for your pearls. Pearls are prone to scratches, so store them separately in fabric-lined compartments.
4. Wear your pearls often. Pearls do best in a moist environment, so wearing them frequently keeps them from drying out.
Pearls should never be cleaned in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. It’s safe to use warm, soapy water for occasional, thorough cleaning. If the pearls are strung, be sure the string is completely dry before wearing.
1. Clean your pearls after each wearing.
2. Simply wipe with a soft cloth, microfiber jewelry cloth or chamois, either damp or dry, to remove any skin oils or dirt. A drop of olive oil on the cloth can be used to help maintain the luster.
3. If damp, lay them on a soft cloth to dry before storing. If they are strung on silk be aware that silk shrinks if it gets wet but will also stretch if hung to dry.
4. Avoid using cleaners, detergents, brushes and ultrasound cleaners.
5. If your necklace is particularly dirty take it to a jeweler or use a recommended jewelry cleaner.
For routine care, it’s best to wipe cultured pearls with a very soft, clean cloth after each wearing.
Pearl necklaces are all individually knotted between beads. This will help to prevent pearl loss if a strand breaks. Knots also keep pearls from knocking into each other and rubbing. Adding knots also adds strength to a beaded necklace and it is considered a mark of quality. If your piece is worn frequently, it is recommended to restring it every two to three years if needed.

Also, remember that pricing could change on the item if we no longer stock it, we would let you know in advance if this happens, however, we will make every effort to keep our prices as low as possible.
